active start program

The Active Start Program is the first progression in the TOP Soccer Player Pathway and is suitable for players ages 4 & 5 who are new to soccer. Our age and stage appropriate club curriculum is designed to challenge each player individually and focuses on various aspects of sports across the four corners of Long-Term Player Development (LTPD). Through a combination of skill development activities, physical literacy, and small-sided games, we aim to help participants reach their full potential and develop a passion for Soccer.

Each group, led by dedicated TOP Soccer coaches, consists of a maximum of 8 players. We recognize the importance of building bonds with coaches and strive to organize coaches with the same groups each week. The program follows a Game-Activity-Game (GAG) format, allowing players to transfer skill development into a small-sided game environment while making sessions fun and engaging.

For U4 programs, parents are encouraged to participate with their children during the weekly sessions. Activities for each session are created by TOP Soccer’s Technical director and are age and stage appropriate with an emphasis on increased touches of the soccer ball, physical literacy, and fun. All activities follow the developmental guidelines of Canada/Ontario Soccer.

frequently asked questions

    • TOP Soccer uniform, jersey, shorts and socks (provided)

    • Soccer cleats (mandatory)

    • Shin guards (mandatory)

  • We strongly encourage all players to use the bathroom before arriving at a program as bathrooms are not available at some facilities. Our coaches are NOT permitted to take children to the bathroom at any time. Parents must remain at the field to accompany their children to and from the bathroom.

  • We are happy to offer friend request opportunities so that friends in the same program may play and enjoy the game together. Our first priority is to create balanced groups, and this will supersede all requests where necessary. Requests are STRICTLY a 1:1 pairing opportunity where players involved must reciprocate requests.

  • The Academy program is an invitation-only competitive program. Players can be identified through coach evaluations on the field or by completing our Academy application form (LINK). In the TOP Soccer Academy, players participate in 3x events per week and play exhibition games and festivals against other clubs within the GTA. To find out more CLICK HERE.
